Hey Fred,
Here are some pix of some squirrels I shot recently with the .22 WMR contender
barrel I got from you. Here in Texas, the season for fox squirrels is open all year, so I went out to my deer lease property in order to try out
the gun. When I received the gun, it was immediately apparent that this was the most well-balanced and perfect fitting rifle I had ever owned
- the stock fit very comfortably, and my eye lined up with the scope perfectly. I topped the rifle off with a 3x9 Nikon Buckmasters scope, and
headed to the range.
I sighted it in at 50 yards, and my very first group out of the barrel was under
.5", my second group had two shots in exactly the same hole. I quickly found that unless I screwed up (jerking the trigger, etc), that this rifle
would shoot under .5" every single time. I knew it would be deadly on squirrels!
So I¡m out at the lease, hunting for squirrels in a pecan grove along the main
creek on the place. The sun comes up, and I stalk up on a squirrel perched in a tree out around 45-50 yards or so. Bang! Down he falls. Next squirrel,
only about 30 yards - same result. I very quickly killed the five squirrels pictured, and decided to call it a day. The only shot I missed was
at only about 7 yards - it was too close to focus on through the scope!
I can't wait to take it out this fall and hunt gray squirrels (which, due to
their more active, nervous behavior, are a bit more of a challenge)! I liked the barrel so much that I¡ve already ordered a .260 Remington Encore
barrel and custom stock set for my wife, and plan on buying a couple of encore barrels and a stock set for myself, hopefully starting this summer!
Sincerely,
Troy Hibbitts
